3D tracking for critical domains

Nifty Vector is a hardware and software company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Led by computer vision experts Matt MacDonald and Joseph Howse, we develop next-generation 3D tracking solutions for virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality in critical domains such as aerospace and healthcare.

THINGS ARE ON TRACK

We are a startup, founded in 2024, with residency in the ideaBRIDGE incubator. We have a 3D tracking solution capable of submillimeter accuracy and of being embedded unobtrusively in small props or wearables. We can give private demos by appointment. We are currently gearing up for a pilot launch with interested clients and partners. Below, you can read about our founders and get in touch.

Our Team

Matt MacDonald

Matt is a computer scientist and consultant specializing in computer vision, hardware emulation, and machine learning. Matt brings two decades of professional experience across these disciplines, yet also a lifelong drive to expand his interests into the less familiar. Prior to founding Nifty Vector, he worked on a multi-year project deploying a high-performance FPGA design and, building on this experience, he continues to invent embedded systems to solve critical real-time problems. Matt holds a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from Dalhousie University.

Matt is also President of Scalespace, a consulting company which he co-founded in 2015.

Joseph Howse

Joseph is a computer scientist, consultant, and author whose expertise includes computer vision, machine learning, and digital publishing. With 15 years of experience on software engineering teams, he has contributed to releases of aerospace simulations, medical devices, operating systems, libraries, and consumer applications. Joseph’s writing includes several bestselling technical books on computer vision, as well as an award-winning novel. Joseph graduated from Dalhousie University with a BA (French, minor in English), MBA, MA (International Development Studies), and Master of Computer Science.
